The Digital Business Unit is a small team who are involved in developing and bringing to market new digital solutions to sit alongside our core expertise in navigation systems for commercial shipping.
Sperry Marine already provides their award winning “VisionMaster” Integrated Bridge System around the world to major shipping customers across container, tanker, ferry and cruise markets. The digital SperrySphere platform will enable these customers to leverage more digital solutions without compromising on safety or security
As a new business unit within Sperry Marine, the Digital team are adapting to a more agile DevOps based process to provide capabilities enabled by improvements in ship to shore connectivity and use of standardised cloud and IoT solutions. These address the needs of the modern ship owner as well as supporting the digital transformation of Sperry Marine
Within this cross-functional team are people with skills and experience in areas such as strategy, marketing and project management as well as the technical team who have skills in software, systems engineering, test, cloud technology, security and IT.
In this role you will be guiding and overseeing the delivery of the SperrySphere customer trials and development projects, splitting your time between external customers and internal development.
One of the foundations for success in digital is using customer trials as part of the development process. In this role you will lead the customer engagement, organisation and delivery of these trials with the support of the Sperry Service and Support teams.
As the first SperrySphere capabilities are sold and rolled out across customer fleets, you will assist in the customer liaison, planning and execution of the installations and will be the first technical point of contact for the customer.
You will liaise closely with the Sperry Service and Support team to ensure that training is provided to the wider internal and external service engineering organisation as well as assisting in the technical support to the customer where needed.
In the second part of this role, you will ensure that the internal and external development teams are able to deliver the project tasks that support the digital roadmap through your leadership of the development team, coordination between all stakeholders in the Digital Business unit and wider Sperry organisation as well as supplier management and customer meetings.
You will participate in internal reporting, influence the technical roadmap and the delivery of products and capabilities to the wider organisation. There will be times where you will need to be hands-on in terms of project activity so the ability to gain a technical understanding of the products and platform will be required.
Finally, as part of Digital leadership team you will take part in developing the strategic direction of the business unit.
This leadership role will have a number of direct engineering reports - network and security, test &software.
