Role Overview

As a Senior Principal Systems Engineer you will take a leading role in the development and delivery of Sperry’s next-generation steering system out of the Hamburg office, as well as providing regular support to the New Malden office for its ECDIS and Radar products.

You will take the lead in advocating a culture of Systems Thinking in the Engineering department as you are given the influence to define and steer the re-definition of the Systems Engineering process and its associated tools to support the business in its agile transformation.

As a predominantly technical role, it is expected that a successful candidate will spend the majority of their time involved in the system design process, either directly or by delegating tasks to others. Therefore, an excellent candidate will have experience of team leadership, enabling them to develop plans of action that can be executed by either internal or external resource.

Skills & Experience
  • Experience in a systems engineering role
  • Experience of systems requirements management, definition, design, integration, acceptance and analysis
  • Knowledge of System Engineering models and techniques.
  • Able to use logical and creative thinking to solve problems and make decisions
  • Good technical writing skills.
  • Knowledge of requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS or similar)
  • Able to work with people effectively at all levels, using well-developed influencing and interpersonal skills
  • Thorough and analytical
  • Able to deal with internal and external customers in a professional way, both in person, over the phone and by email
  • Can write and speak clearly and can adapt their language as appropriate to the situation
  • Is a team player, and can create, develop and maintain productive working relationships
  • Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering / technical subject (e.g. electrical/electronic engineering or similar)
