The Sperry Marine Engineering Team based in New Malden in the UK and Hamburg in Germany, have responsibility for the development and maintenance of Sperry Marine’s wide product portfolio, and ambitious development roadmap.

We are a truly multidisciplinary team, with engineers from electronics, software, mechanical, system engineering and system test backgrounds all working in integrated teams to develop best in class products and solutions.

We are currently have a great opportunity for a skilled Senior Technical Solutions Engineer to join us.

Acting as the central point of contact within Engineering for our teams’ support for possible Engineering-related issues arising from customers in the field, production or quality-related issues, that need potential Engineering root cause investigation and solution development.
 
A key aspect of the role will be to liaise, work closely and operate in partnership with many stakeholders and will involve a mix of :
  • Data collection
  • Lab-based issue triage and fault reproduction
  • System-wide and cross disciplined technical investigation and solution generation
  • Reporting, documentation, planning estimation and liaison
Key components of the role workflow will include:
  • From an initial report of an issue, which could come from many sources (possibly at once) – collect, rationalise and triage all the available data and reports, following Engineering processes.
  • Assess whether enough work has been done ‘at source’ by either Production Engineering or Field Service to ascertain with a reasonable likelihood that there is an issue Engineering need to address.
  • Identify if possible the root cause issue(s) when possible, or collect enough data and material to document the problem in order to hand over to the wider team for solution implementation
  • During triage and investigation, provide regular status updates to the various stakeholders, tailoring the reports and updates depending on the intended audience
  • If the issue has led to an formal Non Conformance Report, then work to follow the NCR process to document any solutions or root cause analysis performed.
  • For production related issues where an Engineering change needs to be made to resolve the issue(s), detailed discussions may be required with the Production Engineering team and Supplier Quality in order to flow the changes into production.
 

Skills & Experience

 
  • Proven ability to work on system-wide issues in complex technical environments
  • Proven investigation and debug skills for complex technical problems
  • Excellent communication, presentation and explanatory skills (written and verbal)
  • Good powers of persuasion, negotiation and liaison/reporting skills
  • Detail- and solution-orientated with a customer-focused mind set
  • Able to project manage their own work and wider solution delivery
  • Good IT skills and experience with fault ticketing systems, e.g. Jira and Zendesk
  • Experience with issue tracking in QA processes for production or software & system test
  • Self-sufficient when needs to be, team player always
  • Calm under pressure and able to stay focussed on achieving a solution
