Role Overview

We are a global leader in the marine navigation systems industry, providing integrated technical solutions for the commercial sector and we currently have a great opportunity to join our Sales team as a Business Development Manager.

The Business Development Manager role is to be responsible for developing local business activities and maintaining relationships with our key customers in the US territory. Employee will ensure wide spread customer satisfaction through the co-ordination and execution of navigation refits as in accordance with applicable company and marine standards. Role will be the Subject Matter Expert for projects by gathering requirements, defining retro fit solutions, responding to project change requirements as well as customer requirement escalations.  Employee will assist by following and reporting new build activity, working with key customer on budgetary quote preparation, as well as scope of supply definition. Internally, they will be coordinating intercompany resources to ensure each project is delivered on-time, on-budget and within the customer’s needs.

As Sperry Marine drives business development with some of the largest naval and commercial customers in Vancouver, the successful candidate will maintain some of our our largest company contracts and grow new opportunities.

Skills & Experience

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the supported business obligations, operational requirements and contractual needs with US’s largest customers to ensure widespread, fleet-wide satisfaction.
  • Coordinate with internal resources such as MSE’s, Applications and Administration to provide scope and system design for retrofit activities. Assist senior BD with requirements gathering and coordinate respond to bid requests.
  • Follow company procedures/guidelines to ensure smooth execution while leading change management to find new efficiencies in day to day processes.
  • Contribute to new customer relationships and be actively apart of BD activities by assisting Americas Business Development Director
  • To be aware of and comply with Company Standards of Conduct and all relevant statutory requirements.
  • To carry out any other reasonable management request.

 

Technical/Job specific skills:

Required:

  • >5 years’ experience in BD, B2B sales or project co-ordination environment preferably working with commercial or industrial electronics

OR

  • 3-5 years’ experience in a maritime environment with working knowledge of navigation procedures and principles.

 

  • Degree-qualified in either engineering (e.g. electrical engineering, Information Technology or similar), business (e.g. business administration, business commerce) or maritime certification (e.g. sea-going or land based).
  • Knowledge of Marine Navigation and Communication Electronics (Radars, Gyrocompasses, VHF radios, VDR’s etc.).
  • Knowledge of IT system design and network architectures such TCP/IP, UDP.
  • Experience balancing multiple priorities and multiple projects at the same time
  • Strong numeracy and problem solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, fluency in English.
  • Strong knowledge and experience using MS Office products

Desirable:

  • Master’s or postgraduate degree in relevant discipline
  • Navigation systems definition, design, integration, acceptance and analysis experience
  • Knowledge of marine specific standards (e.g. IEC 60945, IEC61162-1/2/450/460) and Class society navigation Regulations (USCG / Lloyds etc.).
