Role Overview

The Head of Quality & EHS will define the Quality and Environmental Health & Safety vision for Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine (NGSM) and ensure the translation of the vision into action plans backed by an appropriate governance structure.  This role can be based out of either our New Malden or Vlaardingen office.

Working closely with the Sperry Marine (SM) Leadership team and associated Business Leads/Heads of Functions, they will hold the overall accountability for Quality Assurance, Environmental Health & Safety and Continuous Improvement and associated compliance activities across all areas of the Sperry Marines business with a focus on a “Customer First” culture.

The role holder will be a strong people leader and be responsible for the management of an associated and globally distributed team as well as key internal and external relationship (i.e. customers, suppliers, formal certification bodies)

Core Duties:

  • Responsible for defining, leading and implementing the global Quality Assurance, Sustainability, Environmental, Health & Safety and Continuous Improvement Strategy for NGSM
  • Leading the continuing development, deployment, maintenance and compliance with a robust and integrated Quality Management System aligned with NGSM business objectives and needs
  • Defining and deploying a structured approach to Continuous Improvement, that focuses on a culture of customer first, agility and effectiveness
  • Defining and deploying a structured approach to EH&S, with a focus on the operational environment and product/activity sustainability
  • Creating and driving a culture for quality and continuous improvement within Sperry Marine, as the “Sperry Way”
  • Contributing to the overall business strategy to achieve best in class quality excellence
  • Certification and maintenance of standards (i.e ISO 9001 & 14001) as well as various Maritime Certification bodies and standards (i.e MED). Whilst ensuring the effective management of regulatory and legislative changes impacting the organisation
  • Responsible for developing and executing improvement strategies, and holding the quality related decision making authority within the following key business areas : Bids, Projects & Programs, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations and In-Service Support.
  • Accountability for risk management around all quality related issues, and the establishment/maintenance of a preventive approach
  • Setting and agreeing team budgets
  • Monitoring and reporting overall and relevant performance against business objectives, key performance quality metrics and associated governance structures
  • Champion the people agenda - develop, coach and mentor emerging talent whilst ensuring key roles are clearly defined and staffed by capable, motivated individuals
  • Foster a culture of creativity and open interaction, leading to high employee and customer satisfaction
Skills & Experience

Strong people centric leader, who is passionate about quality and continuous improvement set in a customer focused, business context. With a breadth of senior experience gained from not only quality but also other key business areas. Customer focused with business acumen - drives for results whilst influencing others and works well either leading or working within a team environment.
