Role Overview

The Dreadnought Platform Management System project is the largest project within the Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine Defence Group based in New Malden. The team consists of Project Management and Engineering functions, with experience of complex maritime integration projects and skills across the project cycle.

With experience of submarine systems and projects, the Engineering Delivery Manager is responsible for leading a multidisciplinary technical team in order to deliver the Dreadnought Platform Management System project to cost and schedule. This includes the design and development of hardware and software, hardware production and delivery of the safety case.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Leading a multidisciplinary technical team, including System Engineering, Control Systems, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Safety and Verification & Validation
  • Providing a senior technical interface with the customer
  • Planning and estimating engineering activities
  • Delivering the project to cost and schedule
  • Responsible for the engineering management plan and adherence to it
  • Ensure adequate engineering resource and skill sets are maintained for the project
  • Engage with the technical governance team to apply lessons learnt from other projects
  • Drive for engineering best practice across the lifecycle
  • Support the preparation of contract changes and proposals
  • Be aware of and comply with company standards of conduct and all relevant statutory requirements
  • Carry out any other reasonable management request

 

Skills & Experience
Skills and experience:
  • Design, development, integration and verification of complex electronic systems and equipment
  • Familiar with requirements specification techniques and system engineering processes
  • Knowledge of: Submarine operation and systems; Electronic control and instrumentation systems; Safety critical processes
  • Experienced in engineering management, people management and leading large technical teams in a matrix environment
  • Experienced with delivering complex integration projects using earned value management and controls
  • Full project lifecycle experience
  • Strong leader capable of leading large technical team
  • Capable decision maker
  • Expert lateral worker with demonstrable success in delivery working transversally with supporting teams
